This 100 year old, 3 story structure had been a boarding house for several decades until our clients purchased it and wanted to update this Washington, DC classic only 3 blocks to the US Capitol. Their program called for a rethinking of all living spaces throughout the house so it would reflect their clean sense of design, love of cooking and uncluttered lifestyles while capturing as much natural light as possible. The design incorporates translucent glass walls, bamboo floors, many custom built-ins, new lighting design as well as all new room finishes and plan configurations. With the kitchen on the second floor the owners are able to combine the main living space with the open kitchen’s natural gravitational pull. Even in the darkest days of January this house remains a bright and naturally illuminated house during the daylight hours.
