Located in Washington’s largest historic district, this young couple needed better suited space for their expanding family and home based business. The house was completely redesigned around a concealed 3 story addition in the rear that contains the kitchen, dining and generous and light filled master bedroom suite. Additionally, a new 3rd story office loft is perched on top of the original 19th century house with views of the Capitol and DC skyline but hidden from view from the established street that the house fronts. The clients wanted their new modern spaces to play off of the historic details to reflect their interest in design, light, functionality and transparency. All new high efficiency building systems operate invisibly behind a warm and inviting natural palette of finishes giving this historic house a modern vibe.
