Everyone laments the day that they have to leave Brooklyn due to careers, opportunities or any other reason. This couple wanted to create a home in DC that borrowed the DNA from their life in NY. The house they purchased here is about 100 years old and had been carelessly remodeled several times over its life span. The goal was to start from scratch and get it right from the beginning.
A large, brick rear addition was designed to blend in to the neighborhood and all floors completely reconfigured to include open, light filled living spaces on the first floor, bed rooms and a large master bed room suite on the second floor. A partial third floor was added in the rear to contain a guest suite and is concealed behind a dormer and sloping copper mansard roof. All the interior finishes were replaced with a blend of modern and traditional materials.
Special attention was paid to maximize natural light throughout the structure with the new generously sized openings to the outdoors. All building systems were completely replaced with high efficiency fixtures and equipment so that this couple will be able to host their friends from Brooklyn in comfort and style for years to come.
